Is America Ignoring the Biggest Drug Epidemic Ever?

The United States is going through its biggest drug epidemic ever in its history, yet the stories are being under reported and played down, we are ignoring the death toll because America is addicted and in denial.

Take the four children in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Monday morning, someone has to as they are now orphans. The eldest, a 7 year old, tried to wake her unmarried parents for at least 24 hours to no avail but she did dress herself and catch her school bus, attend school then return home.

It was on the return home that the bus driver learned about the girl not being able to rouse her parents. When authorities investigated they discovered not only the 7 year old but three other children, ages five, three and nine months.

The parents in their mid 20’s had died of an apparent heroin overdose but they are not alone as in their county alone there have been 422 deaths by heroin overdose in the last year, more than any other year on record.

Stories abound of parents endangering their children, as they get high on opioids of various types. There is the couple arrested in Ohio after they allegedly passed out while under the influence of drugs in a vehicle with the woman’s 4-year-old son sitting in the back seat.

Then there is the disturbing video that surfaced in September, showing a toddler trying to awaken her mother, who had allegedly passed out from drug use while shopping in a Family Dollar in Lawrence, Massachusetts.

In San Francisco, one business owner posts photos on Twitter of the homeless, that number well over 7,000 in the city by the bay, helping each other shoot up their heroin.

It is heartbreaking that godless thinking and policies have led us here. Drug addiction is more than some disease. By calling it that alone it gives the perception, the bad thinking, that you are powerless to help yourself, therefore you should not even try to overcome it.

Drugs and alcohol abuse are not just physical but mental and spiritual in nature and should be battled as such. This slavery comes first from a rejection of God and ways. If we would listen to the Lord we would avoid drunkenness and drug use and seek fulfillment in living according to His will and His ways.

We should also understand that opioid use has increased not only because of a greater demand but a greater supply. The deaths are as much a result of the new high and inexperience dealers and users.

But what is the source of this heroin supply? It occurs to me that until recently the largest source of heroin in the world has been Afghanistan and Iraq, haven’t we recently seen a great influx of migrants from that part of the world going to the areas most affected?

If it is not being brought over by recent immigrants that have seen the largest numbers in the last years then they may be teaching others how to grow it here in the good old USA.

The bible teaches clearly on drunkenness and drug use and we have been ignoring it. We are trying to make pot legal in many of our states in order to create opportunity for other drugs. We are ignoring our biggest drug epidemic ever and it is killing us.
