Sound Doctrine vs. Lawlessness

The Apostle Paul in Titus chapter 2 encourages the teaching of sound doctrine and its being taught by the older members of the community of faith to the younger members in order to have Godly marriages, families and ultimately churches.

The only way for the body of Christ to do this is by careful study and obedience of the word of God from Genesis to Revelation and the development of core values that guide our every action and decision we make.

Some people even some pastors reject this principle as outdated and even immature rejecting the sound doctrine that ensures the sanctification of the believer and ultimately the church.

When so called Christian leaders tell us that we should abandon the scripture that is a sure fire sign that we should leave their leadership because they only wish to tickle itching ears wanting to continue in their sin instead of being challenged in their lawlessness.

I talk of the bible often not just because it is the name of this program but because it holds the hope of a better life found in Jesus Christ. It is by His word that we know of sin and its wages and by those scriptures that there is a path removing our unrighteousness not by what we do but by obedience to Jesus and what He did on our behalf.

It is by His word that we gain instruction in righteousness and that we learn that while works does not save us, it is good works that allow me to set aside my selfishness in order to make others lives better.

I really can’t understand how anyone could claim to be a believer in Jesus Christ while rejecting God’s word or a pastor that would never quote from the bible after all it proceeded from the very mouth of the Lord.

To be honest, I would not consider either to really be Christian but something else entirely, claiming a form of godliness but denying the power thereof.

As Titus 2 concluded, Paul wanted the church to avoid lawlessness and to do good works. Both are a call to avoid the negative commands like lying and stealing and perform the positive commands like helping a neighbor in trouble or taking care of the poor.

If we fail to study God’s word how can we know when we are being lawless or understand how to perform good deeds? Sure, many would claim the Spirit should lead us but Jesus said we would worship in Spirit and truth which I would take as the truth of God’s word empowered by the Spirit of God.

It is my belief that while you will find churches without the word of God filled by the tens of thousands for a season while there is good ear tickling going on they will soon by as empty tombs like so many liberal and lawless churches that came before.

Be a part of a bible believing and teaching church or bring the one you attend back to the word of God, go to bible study as often as you can and pray for and support your pastor in bringing quality studies of the word of God. Endure sound doctrine and watch how the Lord will invigorate and use your church to reach a dead and dying world.
