Confronting Men Trapped by Pornography

Over the weekend Pamela Anderson co-authored a Wall Street Journal article on having a conversation about pornography. The former Playboy model (and by former I mean she was in the last printed issue), Baywatch star and amateur porn star herself attempted to address porn addiction and Anthony Weiner by encouraging men to be more open to sexual experiences and to step away from the computer or T.V.

Well that should solve the problem; use sexual immorality to stop sexual immorality, sure.

Anderson wrote the article with the help of a Rabbi councilor who did not offer any biblical insights probably because his worldview was just as liberal as hers with an eye toward what is viewed as sexual liberty when really what is being offered is enslavement to destructive lusts.

Large percentages of men and women are being enslaved to a wider array of sexual perversions and porn is chief among them although it has been sold as harmless fun and release. Think about what happens to the consumer of porn and the real sins being committed as well as the psychological and physiological destruction being caused.

The sins of pornography include voyeurism, if the porn consumer were to have to watch the same acts from a window instead of a LCD screen, they would be arrested, right? Jesus said if you look upon a woman and lust you have committed adultery in your heart, does porn count? Then there is the wide variety of sexual immorality the porn consumer can indulge from heterosexual to homosexual and beyond.

Before you claim that watching these things on the various electronic devices you have available is not the same thing as the real thing, consider how we feel about the child porn addict, would we allow them to babysit our kids knowing what they have been watching? I’m sure your spouse would feel the same way should they find out what you have been watching.

Then there is the effect porn has on your mind and body, its pretty bad. Men will see a dramatic drop in testosterone and the inability to be excited by their partner because they have been lusting after women that through movie magic cannot be comparable to their spouse.

The worldly answer is to shut off the device of choice and engage in real sexual immorality but the biblical answer is pluck out your eye to avoid sin. But before you go to that extreme, how about unplugging the internet and the electronic devices and repent of your choices.

This is not an easy prescription to be sure. You need help and this one does not come out without much prayer and fasting. Be honest about your sin because porn can be as addictive as cigarettes or cocaine and you don’t just drop it, it will hound you like other sins.

Pornography is a trap many men think they are strong enough to defeat in private but you need the power of the Holy Spirit and God’s word and you have to have brothers in Christ who can help you bear the burden. The devil would have you believe that you are the only one but that is a lie, too many men and a whole lot of women struggle with porn and it is time to tell the truth that this too can be overcome by the power of Jesus Christ and the support of a bible believing church that will judge the sin but empower and build up the believer seeking the Lord’s righteousness.
