We live in a fierce age. When men are godless, given over to their lusts and their hedonism until they are consumed by its pursuit in disease or they are fierce in their devotion to false gods that demand their very lives in an attempt to obtain paradise.

Yet, there is no peace found in sex, drugs and rock n’ roll nor is reconciliation found in throwing ourselves into the fire. There is but one way to heaven and it found in a stairway built by God.

[Jacob] had a dream, and behold, a ladder was set on the earth with its top reaching to heaven; and behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.
And behold, the LORD stood above it.
(Genesis 28:12-13)

Men have sought throughout history to fill the void left by the separation we have with God. Demons have offered solutions, as have men. We have built towers, taken drugs, sought pleasures and even created God in our own image but all have left us empty.

Jesus told Nathaniel “You will see the heavens opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man” (John 1:51). This speaks to Jacob’s ladder, the stairway to heaven. The Lord was clear that there is but one way to the Father and that was through Him.

The Father created a way to reconcile us to Him and that was through His Son Jesus Christ. We cannot build our own stairway to heaven, we cannot break in God’s dwelling place. The person who does not enter by the gate is a thief and he will be cast out.

Here’s the thing, we have to do it His way. We must humble ourselves and ask forgiveness and accept His free gift of salvation.

Oh, an interesting thing about Jacob’s ladder, the Lord stood above the ladder, but the rock that Jacob laid his head on, he anointed when he woke up. In Hebrew, this word is Messiah. In other words, the Lord was at the bottom of the ladder too.
